Jason Robinson Tag Rugby Competition 🥇🥇
At the end of last half term, we partook in the annual Tag Rugby Championships at Wootton Rec, which was hosted by former England International Jason Robinson. Last year was the first time this event took place and was a successful one for us as a school, with our Year 5 and 6’s winning their event in style, and our Year 3 and 4’s having a fabulous run in their tournament too. This year, we took a squad for both age groups once again made up of boys and girls. With a big focus being on Tag Rugby again this year at Newport within lessons and after school clubs, the children were eager to get stuck into the event.
Starting with Year 3 and 4, they were due to play 4 games in the group stage and with positive results it would see them into a final and a chance to win the competition. Their first game was against Wootton and it was clear that the kids were on fire from the off, scoring multiple outstanding tries to earn a well deserved 7-2 in the opener. Up next was St Francis who battled excellently throughout which was matched by the effort by the Newport squad, who managed to come away with a 6-3 victory. Two wins from two. After that came Binstead, in a tight afair against a strong side saw our squad take another win scoring 4 tries. With a chance to go undefeated in the group and therefore book their place in the final, Newport took on Binstead, who were also hot on form in the tournament. A ridiculously close match with action at both ends, endless tagging and relentless running ended in yet another win for this outstanding group, seeing them fly into the final. The final was to be played against a familiar foe, the team who had just taken us all the way, Binstead. The final was immense, so much effort and desire shown by every single child who took part. A game that was only going to be won by the whole team. In the end, Newport scored 5 tries, scored by 5 different players to win the game. Amazing teamwork, cooperation and togetherness saw this group of children lift the trophy high in the sky ! Excellent job team, you did yourselves and the school so proud.
Year 5 and 6 were scheduled to play 6 games across the afternoon in a league based format, with the winner being the team who would accumulate the most points in those games. Just like the Year 3 and 4 team, the team caught fire from the off, coming away 6-0 winners in their first game against Lanesend. The next game was a battle up against Shalfleet B, which was a back and forth game that was going to be won by the finest margin, in which it was as Newport just scrapped a 4-3 win in a magnificent Tag Rugby display from both sides. This type of game followed for the next two matches, as Newport were a part of two more Tag Rugby classics against St Blaisus and Binstead. Remarkably, the 4-3 scoreline was the same for both of these match ups, just going to show not only how incredible the standard was at the tournament, but also the resilience, endurance and determination our superstars have. The next game was played at the same maximum intensity up against Nine Acres, where through some outstanding tagging and brilliant forward running, Newport came away as 5-3 winners, setting up a conclusion game against Barton with Newport only needing a point to win the tournament, and that they did. Barton were fantastic but were matched by our players, who claimed the point they needed to come away as winners! Outstanding, what an achievement for this group. Congratulations to you all.
What can we say, double Tag Rugby Winners. What an immense achievement for every single child who took part on the day. Words cannot describe how remarkable you are, and how proud of you we all are at Newport.

Skipping Showdown
A couple of weeks ago, we held a school wide event all to do with skipping, and A LOT of skipping was done ! For the event, each class was paired up with another from across the school, with the challenge of being the pair of classes to complete the highest number of skips possible. Each pair had a 30 minute slot with Mr Chase to have some free time skipping, completing some challenges before the timed skips started. Each class was tasked with completing as many skips as they could in 2 minutes, before they would swap over and repeat. Throughout the event, it was so incredible to see the communication, teamwork and willingness to compete from every single class. What was also so amazing to see was the older classes paired up with the younger classes was the leadership and support they were showing. Overall, a brilliant day all around. In the end, in an incredibly tight contest with a very small margin of skips between all the classes.
1st - Tromso + Vanuatu 5,632
2nd - Anchorage + Ulaanbaatar 5,175
3rd - Helsinki + Hoi An 4,351
4th - EYFS + Ushuaia 4,344
5th - Broome + Gwangju 4,164
Vanuatu and Tromso came out on top winning this year's event ! The classes were presented with their trophies on Monday and are now proudly displaying them in class.
Also a BIG special mention to all the teachers who joined in the teachers competition and a congratualtions to Mr Holder who was crowned the Champion this year. All that extra time training really paid off.
We are counting down the days until next year!

London Mini Marathon Round Up 🏃♀️🏃
Last Saturday, we embarked on this year's journey to take part in the London Mini Marathon! The day started bright and early. Loading onto the coach, buckling up and setting off for the day. Once we got to London, the sun was shining as we walked past Big Ben on our way to the Horse Guard Parade where the race would begin. We arrived at the venue, put our stuff down and had a small bite to eat for some energy before starting. Once we were reenergized, the runners did a quick warm up with Mr Brunton before heading over to our starting pen. We gathered together, kept our legs warm and headed for the starting line. The energy was building, the children couldn’t wait and finally the buzzer went and we were off !
The atmosphere was electric, with so many people lining the streets to watch the event and cheer on all the runners. We spoke to our runners at the start and told them they can go at whatever pace they wanted to, with some choosing to run slower to take in the atmosphere and experience, whilst some chose to run as quick as they could to record the fastest time they could. No matter what version of the run they decided to do, every single child put in so much effort to complete the race and that was definitely on show by the red faces ! Every single child completed the race in wicked times, collected their medals and soaked in the moment.
After completing the race, we then had some lunch in the park to celebrate and recover from the rest in some much needed shade, before heading back to the bus with some sight seeing along the way ! All in all, we had a fantastic day all around. The children were amazing, represented the school in such a brilliant way and showcased what such great athletes we have at this school. We are already massively looking forward to next year's London Mini Marathon Event. Well done everyone !
