Year 5 Cricket vs Newchurch and Gurnard -
Our Year 5 boys, who have already had some experience this term in cricket matches, were set to take on a new challenge of two games in one hot afternoon ! These two fixtures were held at Arreton Cricket Ground, with this days opposition coming in the shape of Newchurch and Gurnard. The first of the two games began, where our team started off in fine form, setting the tone for the remainder of the game. Throughout the game, there was some fantastic overall Cricket on display, most notably the outstanding Batting along with the bravery to run, which is something we’ve worked on so much in lessons and at Cricket After School club ! After both batting and fielding, Newport came away victorious, meaning a win in the next game guaranteed a place in the next round for this group !
The second game began strongly once again for Newport, who this time around fielded superbly to gain an early lead. It’s fair to say our bowling was on point too, which was easily the most pleasing aspect to see as our children have worked so hard on this within school. Newport set themselves an achievable goal with their runs due to their brilliant fielding and this goal was met, resulting in two wins out of two on the day !
We couldn’t be more proud of this group, with a real variety of children who have played Cricket for a long time as well as out of school, along side some children just starting their journeys in Cricket. It was so incredible to see how well the group worked, with amazing cohesion and teamwork. The next round awaits for this group and we can’t wait to see how they get on !
Year 5 and 6 Quad Kids -
This event was all about Athletics, with a squad of 8 children mixed from Year 5 and 6, being made up of 4 girls and 4 boys. There were so many schools on the day at The Bay Secondary School, with success in this event resulting in a place at the Hampshire competition held on the mainland !
Within our squad, we had a strong mix of fantastic runners, field event experts as well as most of if not all of our students being all rounders when it comes to Athletics. The event consisted of field events such as Standing Long Jump, Javelin, Vortex etc. Along with this was the track events which included some shorter distance sprints plus some longer distances to finish. With such a remarkable group of children, we were set up for success, and the kids got to work and did the rest !
There were some outstanding performances on all events, with multiple wins in brackets and singular events, which just goes to show just how talented the children are as well as how hard they have worked ! The running events allowed more time to shine for our athletes, who performed incredibly to achieve many more victories.
In the end, our team finished 4th overall out of all the schools at the event, which means our group of Athletes will be travelling to the Hampshire event in the coming weeks to compete !
A momentous achievement for our young superstars, who keep smashing every event they are tasked with. Well done team, we can’t wait for the next competition !
Year 6 Beach Cricket -
What an incredibly fun and different experince for this group of Year 6 girls ! Last week, we had the oppurtunity to take a group of Year 6 girls to compete in a Beach Cricket event on Appley Beach in Ryde. The format for these games and this event is very similar to that of a normal School Cricket game, with the only differences being the surface and the scenary !
Unfortunatly on the day, the weather was not that of what you would expect for an event being held on the beach, but our Girls powered through to compete brilliantly in the event. The 7 girls competed in multiple different matches against various schools from across the island. As the game and format was really similar, the girls quickly got to grips with the game and began really strong in the event. The batting was outstanding through the whole morning, which is no suprise with this group who have been so impressive in their Cricket games away from the beach so far this year. With such incredible batting and some strong fielding, the girls began to gain momentum in the event.
After finishing all their games, the girls got to sit in the sun once it came out and enjoy their lunch on the beach which was a supurb way to finish the morning. We would like to congratulate the girls for their success at this event, it looked like all of you had an amazing time and enjoyed it as much as we did !
With Summer 2 going into its final 4 weeks, we're so excited to share all the experinces and events that remain for the incredible children at Newport !

Y4 Residential Update
We’ve had another fantastic day here on the Year 4 residential trip!
The children have loved getting stuck into a full day of activities, including Bushcraft skills, woodland mindfulness, and a beautiful hike down along the seafront — complete with plenty of silly songs and lots of laughter along the way!
Dinner was a big hit tonight, and the ice cream Vionetta went down a treat for dessert. Right now, the children are enjoying some free time out on the front lawn, soaking up the last of the sunshine before we get ready for our evening activities.
Everyone is happy, tired in the best way, and looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

More News from the Year 4 Residential
We just wanted to share a quick update from our Year 4 residential trip!
The children were absolutely brilliant last night — everyone was settled and asleep by 10:15, which meant we all got a good night’s rest. Some had quite an early start this morning, but spirits were high after a lovely evening spent playing games in Cam’s room and watching part of a film together.
We’re enjoying some glorious summer weather, so water bottles and hats have been essential and well-used today. The children are excited for a full day of activities ahead, including woodland mindfulness games, learning some hunting and tracking skills, and of course, looking forward to a delicious dinner of burgers and chips.
We’ll keep you updated, but rest assured they’re all happy, active, and having a wonderful time!
