Reading Festival

This week, on Wednesday and Thursday, we are once again welcoming a number of authors into school as part of the Stories in Schools programme from the IW Story Festival.

On Wednesday morning, Years 1 and 2 will work with Charlotte Snook, author of 'Nanny Perry's Puppets' in interactive musical and storytelling sessions. In the afternoon, children in Years 4, 5 and 6 will be visited by Peter J. Murray, who will share the writing process of his latest book 'Jersey Files.' Peter has been visiting island schools for several years and offers children the opportunity to purchase his book at a reduced price after the presentation. More information is available on the attached flyer.

On Thursday morning, Years 5 and 6 will meet Dr Andrew Lee, author of 'Continuous Blinking: Critical Thinking Stories and Questions for Clever and Determined Young Thinkers. Year 6 children will then have the opportunity to work more closely with Andrew in a create workshop.

In the afternoon, Years 3 and 4 will work with local author Jules Marriner, who will share her latest book 'Vincent and the Mermaid', giving children the opportunity to use songs and props to join in with her interactive storytelling workshops.

We always value the opportunities to welcome authors into school to share their writing journeys and to inspire the children with their own reading and writing.

Sight for Wight visit in UKS2

This morning UKS2 were visited by Jasmine and her team of volunteers from the local charity Sight For Wight. The classes first learnt about different conditions that affect eyesight by using eye filter cards to experience the different conditions. They then thought about how to protect our eyes, including reducing screen time and wearing sunglasses. Finally. the classes took part in three activities including blindfolded puzzles and drawing, learning braille and using some of the electronic devices that help those who are visually impaired. It was a fantastic session learning all about the work of this year's Yellow House Charity

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week the Hampshire, IOW, Portsmouth and Southampton Safeguarding partnership are conducting a raising awareness week on the topic of Child Sexual Abuse - most importantly how to recognise signs and take action to address concerns.

As part of this they have shared a Raising awareness leaflet for parents and carers, which we are sharing with you for information.
